How to Jump Start a Vehicle

At some point during vehicle ownership, a car or truck may not start. Jumping the battery using another vehicle may be a desirable solution.

Bring the vehicle noses as close together as possible. Turn both vehicles off. Attach the positive jumper cable to the positive post on the battery. Attach the other positive to the good battery. Then, attach the negative jumper cables to the negative post to the dead battery and the other end to an unrelated metal component.

Start the good vehicle and allow it to run for a few minutes. Now, try starting the engine of the other vehicle. If the vehicle still does not start, check the cable connections. The cables might also have a faulty area.

If the problem persists, contact a technician from the FIAT of Portland garage. Our trained staff will assess the problem to get you going again. You may need a quick battery replacement, and we can help with that, too.
